Smart Idea: Get a Move On the Holidays!

Hiya, everybody! This is me, modeling one of my new foodie food pendants, and thinking about how close the holidays are for us handmade artisans.

If you’re a blog follower, you’ll remember a while ago that I talked about creating holiday product collections, and why they’re a good idea. Well, folks, that still holds true today, except there’s a bit more urgency here. You need to get your act together and start releasing stuff so that you can ride the holiday (as in Halloween, Christmas, Hannukkah, etc) gift features on and off of Etsy. So for your lovely weekend, I’ve got three steps for you to get those holiday-themed products into your shop.

  1. Read this post. It’ll get your motivational juices flowing, plus there are some awesome handmade products from other artisans to get you excited.
  2. Start an inspiration journal. Write or sketch any ideas that come to mind. As time goes along, you’ll be happy to have some Halloween, or Thanksgiving, or Christmas designs ready. Play with the ideas as fancy strikes you, and don’t worry too much about having the perfect design right away. Whatever you don’t use this year, you can use in the future.
  3. Brainstorm collection “branding” ideas. How do you want your collection to jive? Nostalgic Victorian? Sleek, modern Santa? Think about your shop’s image. Think about what you want to create. (No one wants to buy something you had no fun making.) Get a general feeling.

So there you have it! That wasn’t too bad, was it? I didn’t actually ask you to make anything, just plan a little. You can get started right now, or wait until your long commute home, or think about Christmas while folding the laundry. Good luck!
